Shubho Bijoya

shubho-bijoya

After successful Durga Utsav, it was the time to rejoice. So, the Bondhus decided to organize Bijoya Sammilani – a small get together after Bijoya – Dussehra as is called in north India. Our maiden successful venture in Durga Puja had given spring to the feet of Bondhus. We got a very good response from the Bengalis residing in India Nagar and adjoining areas so we decided to invite them all in our Bijoya. The date was fixed October 18.

The hall was booked – courtesy Ghosh Da. Gabber was booked to cook the dinner and as usual Sen Da finalised the menu. There was a bit of debate whether we should include chicken in the menu. Ultimately, it was decided that we should serve chicken – how can there be a Bengali feast without non-veg.

Gopal Da’s troupe was hired  with special instructions to render only Bengali songs.

The D-day came. The hall was tastefully decorated. The preparations started from afternoon and by 7 in the evening everything was ready. People started trouping by 7.30 pm and by 8 musicians were in full flow rendering one song after the other. By 8.30 the hall was brimming at its seam. The male members were gossiping outside the hall in small groups while women and children were remained riveted to their seats.

Lo and behold! Our local talent matched Gopal Da’s musicians. Bharati Bhattacharya Nandi, Krishna Mukherjee and  Bidhu Bhabhi rendered soulful  songs both in Hindi and Bangla.  Everyone was in a masti.  It was a masti of joy and fulfillment achieved through the spirit of togetherness. That is the spirit of Bondhu Mahal.
