Time flows very fast. It was just the other day when we decided to enliven the spirit of Bondhus and formed a club called Bondhu Mahal. A year has passed since then. It was December 25, 2012 when we declared to the world about the formation of Bondhu Mahal and a year later on 2013 – the same date – we decided to celebrate our accomplishment. So, we decided to organize a picnic – and what could be the better place than Kukrail Green Hut- 2 where we Bondhus can meet in the festive atmosphere of Christmas.

End of Decembers are foggy with Sun usually grappling to come out of the grip of wafting cloud cover. But this year December 25 was different. God showered His blessings on us as we woke up to clear sky and bright suns shine – a perfect day for picnic. Chandan Das with his eldest son Annirudh reached Green Hut -2 with all paraphernalia with the cook Gabbar at his toe. Sen Da, Acharya (Himanshu) Da and B.M. Da followed suit. The marshals were there getting the things ready for the Bondhus, who were to reach the venue on their leisure.

We at least 22 families – comprising over 75 persons – trooped in one by one. They were greeted with a bright smile and steaming pakoras and garam chai – an elixir in this wintery cold. Young boys have set up wickets and were getting ready for a friendly cricket match with seniors. Joy, Ritik, Annirudh, Krish and Nikku had an animated discussion who would be in their teams. After much confabulations they decided to include Bhaiyyas in their team leaving the so-called oldies to fend themselves.

What a match it was! It was full of fun. With Suffal Bhattacharya as umpire, reminding us of Shakoor Rana of Pakistan, we were left laughing our guts out with his decisions. The result was inconsequential though we lost to the young brigade.

Our sports secretary B.N. Dey da took charge. He organized quiz contest, spoon race and musical chair for women. It was followed by antrakshi. What a day it was when everyone gorged on chicken curry, paneer and aaloo-ghobhi ka sabzi with puri and pulao.

Then there was another round of chai and finger chips.

The day ended with a small celebration when we Bondhus celebrated our anniversary by cutting a cake. It was followed with prize distribution function in which winners of different events were given prizes for their accomplishments. With a hope to meet again – next year – with more accomplishments and a resolve to make Bondhu Mahal a well meaning organization, we parted.
