Baul Songs Lighten Up Poila Boishakh Celebrations
Bondhu Mahal celebrated Poila Boishakh – the Bengali New Year with a dash of cultural tradition laced with the southing rhythms of folksong. The evening was lightened up by ‘Baul Sangeet’ which was presented by Sashti Das Baul and his troupe.
The artistes, attired in traditional dresses regaled the audience with traditional folk songs carrying regional flavour. The troupe kept the audience spellbound with the rendition of Lalon Fokir, who is regarded as the most prominent poet-practitioner of Baul tradition.
Sashti Das started the programme with ‘Amar praner manush achhe prane tai here taye shokol khane’, a song which was very close to Rabindranath Tagore’s heart.
Debroti Banerjee, the only female singer, had the audience swaying to her tunes on ‘Tomay hrid majhare raakhbo, chere debo na,” Noboratan Das made audience to dance on Bengal's own folksong "shaade er lau banailo more boiraagi".
During celebration women members of Bondhu Mahal who had donated blood at least twice during regular Blood Donation camp held on January 23 were honoured by our Chief Guest Vijay Bahadur Pathak and Dileep Srivastava.
