Bondhu Mahal organised a blood donation camp on the occasion of 120th Birth Anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose in which 41 volunteers donated blood.

The function was held at Rajendra Singh Memorial Park, B Block Indira Nagar. The camp was organised in collaboration with Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.

Inaugurating the camp local Corporator Dilip Srivastava said that Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s life is an example how one can excel in life despite odds. He had only one motto to serve his motherland and he fulfilled it till his last breath, he said.

President of Bondhu Mahal Alok Kumar Nigam said that Bondhu Mahal organises these functions from the money it saves from Durga Puja. These functions show our commitment towards society.

This is the fifth year in a row since Bondhu Mahal is organizing Blood donation camp. This year 41 volunteers donated blood 11 of which were women.

In one of the regular meetings we decided to celebrate Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose's birthday on January 23 by organizing a Blood Donation camp. This being our first public function we wanted to make it a big success.

But How! We needed blood donors –who could voluntarily donate blood for the cause. We started exploring all our resources. All the members contacted their friends – our target was to collect minimum 30 units of blood. A list was prepared. Boudis (sister-in laws) and young girls agreed to donate blood. The enthusiasm was palpable and we were confident that we will at least meet our target.

Minister of State for Health Shankh Lal Majhi was our Chief Guest while Dr Madhu Gupta, MLC, was Guest of Honour. The Blood Bank Unit of Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital agreed to organize the camp.

The dawn of January 23 brought shivers down our spines - literally - as we woke up to a very foggy morning. The temperature was close to 4 degree Celsius. An apprehension crossed our minds whether doctors allow bleeding. With prayer on our lips we went to Puja Park and started preparations.

By 9 doctors came and the camp went under way in next half an hour. The pace picked up and when the camp closed at 4 pm, 58 people had donated blood.
