Picnic in Kukrail
The onerous task was now to tell others about this proposal. So, we decided to organize a picnic and it was decided that the announcement about this Club should be made there.
We chose December 25 – the day Jesus Christ was born – as the day to tell the world about our design. A picnic was planned on that day at Kukrail Forest area.
Himanshu Acharya was made Secretary for the picnic and Chandan Das Treasurer. B.N. Dey and S.K.Sen were made Sports secretaries. Both were assigned the job to decide which games should be introduced in the picnic.
It was Tuesday and we knew many families would avoid eating non-veg on that day despite that we decided to have mutton. Enthusiasm was palpable among we Bondhus. The rules were re-defined. “So what if it is Tuesday. We will not eat mutton in our house but can eat in picnic,’ B.M. Da said with a chuckle.
A hut was booked – courtesy Sajal Chakroborty - in Kukrail picnic spot. The hut, so to say, was in the cornor of the park. There was a big ground in front of cemented building. The cook Gabbar laid his wares behind that building and started making preparations to dish out mouth watering pakoras that would go with hot tea.
“Yahoo! Come let’s play cricket,’ Joy and Ritik shouted as soon as they saw the big ground. The ladies stood in huddle, girls went to enjoy swing rides and men sat on the chairs laid neatly at the cornor of the ground.
In a jiffy two cricket teams were formed – Senior and Junior. It was no less than a fun match where even Reena boudi came to test her cricketing skills. Tina played few south-paw shots. Then there were sporting activities. Musical chair and bucket-and-ball game and children put their bowling skills to test.
The best part was the lunch when members gorged into mutton, rice, paneer, a dry veg sabzi followed with mishti.
